Committed To Service

smbgc-sign-photo1 Community Service was definitely the theme of the week last week at our LA HQ as over 40 team members ventured down to the Santa Monica Boys & Girls Club to spend the day with over 100 kids! The Boys & Girls Clubs of Santa Monica is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing youth a safe and productive place to go when they need it most; on both after school and non-school days.

The mission of the Boys and Girls Club is to inspire and enable all young people to realize their full potential as caring, responsible and productive citizens. Our volunteers received a warm welcome from the staff upon arrival and were given a tour of the club where on any given day, the club could host smbgc-photo1up to 500 kids ranging from ages 6 – 17 years old. Volunteers rotated to different areas of the club throughout the day: Game Room, Learning Center, Athletics Department, Dance Studio, and Tech Center. Volunteers also worked to revamp the garden in the front of the club.

The whole day was a blast but ultimately, it was in the gymnasium where volunteers exacerbated the most energy. Volunteers were challenged to a few games of “War Ball” (the club’s version of dodge ball) against the kids. Outnumbered in size, sound and determination the volunteers were defeated time and time again.

All in all, the Rubicon Project volunteers had a memorable day giving back to the local community. As team member, Anuradha Kallury, shared her favorite part of the day, “engaging the more shy, quiet kids in an activity and seeing them break out of their shells and shine was a very rewarding experience.” It was an exceptional day and we cannot wait to return for another fun filled day in hopes of capturing a “War Ball” victory!
