Life’s A Beach

beach-photo2August 17th marked the Rubicon Project’s Second Annual Hosted Beach Day with the inspiring kids and young adults from A Placed Called Home at Will Rogers State Beach in the Pacific Palisades. A day at the beach with 220 kids, burgers, hot dogs and more games than a YMCA summer camp – what could be better! A Place Called Home is a safe haven in South Central Los Angeles where under served youth are empowered to take ownership of the quality and direction of their lives through programs in education, arts, and well-being; and are inspired to make a meaningful difference in their community and the world. Rubicon volunteers got the chance to beach-photo3escape the darkness of the office and spend a day at the beach helping and assisting the kids with boogie boarding, playing football, volleyball, soccer, freeze tag or just sitting and talking. For some kids, it was their first time at the beach and a truly special day. After a pod of dolphins swam by, one young girl from APCH asked a volunteer if we brought those dolphins in just for them – priceless! All in all it was an amazing day and proved to be a great volunteer event. Can’t wait till next year!
